Born in Luxembourg percussionist Yves Popow started his musical training at the capital city of Luxembourg and later went on to study at Codarts, Conservatory of Rotterdam where he received his Master of music in classical percussion in 2015.
To augment his musical horizons, he also studied diverse styles of hand drumming among African, Latin and Brazilian.
As an active musician, Yves performs across the United States and Europe - including Spain, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Germany with various orchestras and ensembles among the Red Fish Blue Fish percussion ensemble, Sofia Soloists, European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, Residentie Orkest and the Youth Percussion Pool.
He has the pleasure of performing in a wide range of venues and events including the opening of the Philharmonie in Luxembourg, Sounds of Music Festival as well as Holland Dance Festival, both in the Netherlands, March Music Days and Percussion Extravaganza – Rituals, both in Bulgaria.
Between February and March 2016 Yves does a US Tour with the World Percussion Group, a selection from top percussionists around the world, which has been Artist-in-Residence at different local universities.
Yves is also an enthusiastic chamber musician and performs regularly with different line-ups among the Rotterdam based contemporary Akom Ensemble, the Luxembourgish Symphonic Orchestra Estro Armonico, Beneath the Blanket, a Danish-Luxembourgish collaboration of live electronics and improvised percussion.
Furthermore Yves is also active in the music education field in which his two new percussion projects BumTschak and Cajaton - the sounding box - are presented weekly to kids.
Currently he is teaching percussion and drums at the Union-Grand-Duc-Adolphe music school.
